I searched East Saint Louis online on the google search and this is one of the items that came up. When Kozol described the city I didn't imagine every building being boarded up. This shows how much work the whole city needs, not just the schools. When speaking about the city Kozol said, "Only three of the thirteen buildings on Missouri Avenue, one of the city's major thoroughfares, are occupied. A 13-story office building, tallest in the city, has been boarded up." (7) It's obvious that since his book which was written in the early 1990's, nothing has changed. When my group and I were discussing the problems on Wednesday during class we were wondering why the mayor or the government didn't do anything about this. There really is no definite answer, after searched online I wasn't able to find a reason why this town and the schools aren't being helped. There are many things the government ignores, and this seems to be one of the biggest problems in America that has been ignored for over a decade and will be ignored most likely for much longer than that. The photographer, Adam Pollak took this photo in 2005 and proves Kozol right.
